According to an estimate, more then 3 billion-text messages in the form of sms are sent in India. On an average 25-30 messages are sent by each subscribers per mobile phone. The average in India is not that high as compared to other Asian countries like China, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. Does it mean that sms india has to catch up with the rest.
The sms messages in India are set to grow over 76 billion messages per year by 2006. So far alerts are the most prominently used applications in the form of value added service. Banks and credit card alerts, board exams results, railway and airline ticket update are few of them.
In future it could be something like, send a sms to a particular location and pick a coke from vending machine and the amount will be credited to your phone bill. This is actually happening in most part of the world but has to catch up in India. So SMS India is on upward path and soon every 1 in 2 people will be using it India.
